Despite all of the achievements women have made over the last few decades, we are still not happy. The pressure to attain perfection in the home, workplace, gym, etc., has caused many women to feel the joy sucked right out of their souls. In Find Your Strongest Life, Marcus Buckingham argues that to find true happiness, we don’t need to achieve perfection in all areas. Instead, we need to concentrate on our strengths and build our lives around the unique role we were designed to play.
Filled with examples from successful women’s lives and guidance from the “Strong Life Test,” Find Your Strongest Life gave me much food for thought as to how I can make different choices on a daily basis to find true joy. While I did enjoy this book and found it a quick read, I was disappointed that so little attention is given to the stay-at-home-mom. Buckingham seems to focus on the career-woman, and while he does use one illustration of an at-home mother, she is far outnumbered by his working-mother illustrations. As a stay-at-home-mom myself, I was hoping for at least one more example of how to put his principles into practice.
Nevertheless, any woman could read this book and walk away with some clarity as to changes she needs to make. Buckingham’s book was worth the read, and I look forward to pursuing my strongest life.

You and Lisa. Of course, all my grandbabies have given me more joy than I ever expected. And the love I feel for all of them is more than I thought possible. I think by the time you are my age, you realize that the only perfect is God, and with Him at the center of of your life you will have the true joy that the author describes. And my question is, how does a man know how to achieve true joy from a woman's perspective? Love, Mom

Matt knew of Buckingham because he is a successful author/leadership authority. He has developed some of the leadership/strength tests and advocates the idea that people should work on these strengths instead of trying to improve weakness.
I am participating in a program through Thomas Nelson publishing where I was given a copy of this book if I agreed to post a review on my blog and link it from their web site. I was only supposed to write around 200 words, so I couldn't explain everything I feel. I, agree–God gives my life purpose, and the author didn't really touch on this point. He might not have intended the book to only appeal to career women, but I really think they were his focus. With that in mind, he gave good tips for how they could find the most happiness out of their lives and careers, and I plan to take some of those points and modify them for my life. Basically, a woman should fill her life with strong moments–purposely filling her life with the kinds of activities that give her joy, strength instead of simply trying to become better at areas that are already draining.

Стало притчей во языцех положение о том, что, как ни оперируй геморрой, через 5, максимум через 10 лет, наступит рецидив. Когда больной, оперированный по поводу геморроя, обращался повторно более чем через 5 лет после вмешательства, то считалось, что результат вполне приемлем. В чем же было дело? Видимо, в том, что хирург удалял во время операции только сами узлы, вернее даже не узлы, а их дистальные «верхушки», их доли; поэтому, например, и удаляли 6, 8, а то и более 10 узлов. Нам однажды пришлось оказывать помощь больному, оперированному в другой клинике по поводу геморроя, у которого развился вскоре после вмешательства двусторонний тяжелый парапроктит. Дело кончилось наложением колостомы. Хирург, оперировавший геморрой, перевязал больному 22 (!) узла. При этом, конечно, очень трудно оставить между иссеченными узлами необходимые кожно-слизистые «мостики», из которых начинается эпителизация перианальных ран. Этих «мостиков» не было оставлено, и развилась тяжелая рубцово-воспалительная стриктура кожной части заднего прохода, приведшая к возникновению парапроктита.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
